Energy Answers International Seeks Planning Permission for Resource Recovery Project
IRELAND (September 7, 2007)
Energy Answers International Ltd. today announced that it is seeking planning permission to build a resource recovery project on the site of the Behan Quarry, off the N7 in County Dublin. The total investment in the project is expected to be approximately €200million. Energy Answers International Ltd. is a subsidiary of Energy Answers which has been successfully developing and operating resource recovery projects to the highest standards in the US for over 25 years. The proposed N7 Resource Recovery Project (N7RRP) would be capable of handling 365,000 tonnes of residual municipal waste per year and, in addition to extensive recovery of recyclable materials, would produce enough energy to power over 43,000 homes in the Dublin area. The proposed N7 Resource Recovery Project would be constructed within the quarry site, selected as the most appropriate location because it is in close proximity to existing waste management infrastructure and transport routes, with a dedicated exit from the N7 and no significant implications for local traffic in the area.
Energy Answers' patented Resource Recovery system was developed with equal emphasis on materials recovery and efficient energy production. All residual waste at the N7RRP will be received in an enclosed building where it will be inspected and shredded to produce Processed Refuse Fuel (PRF). Shredding reduces particle size (and reduces odour), creating a more efficient fuel to be used to create energy. In comparison to non-processed waste or “mass-burn” technologies commonly operating in Europe, the PRF system produces higher thermal efficiency, more energy and cleaner emissions which are consistently lower than the most stringent regulatory standards. It also produces a higher quality ash with virtually no organic material from which valuable metals and aggregates can be recovered resulting in a dramatic reduction in landfill needs.
An N7RRP information office will be open to the public at Energy Answers International’s offices, 3015 Lake Drive, Citywest Business Park, Dublin 24, from 10am to 9pm on Thursdays, starting next Thursday 13th September. Further information is also available at the project website, www.n7rrp.ie.
Energy Answers International has offices in Albany, New York; St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Dublin, Ireland.
