Utilizes physical and mechanical processing to separate out three marketable products from the bottom ash - ferrous metal, non-ferrous metals and Boiler Aggregate™, used in concrete products, asphalt and other construction applications.
Dry Ash Removal System
- 4,715,763 - U.S.
Provides a special non-plugging chute for discharge of the bottom ash from the furnace without quenching in water. This system helps minimize water usage and contributes to the high materials recovery rates associated with a processed refuse fuel system.
Method for Collecting Recyclable Materials
- 5,251,761 - U.S.
Enables the collection of recyclable household items and normal trash in the same collection vehicle, reducing expense and inconvenience often associated with municipal recycling programs. A method of handling recyclable materials through the use of distinctive, and relatively rugged plastic bags.
Conveyor System for Shredded Solid Waste Material
- 4,997,081 - U.S.
- 9002866.3 - Britain
Spring loaded tines positioned along a drag conveyor to help avoid jamming of processed refuse fuel, reducing conveyor maintenance and increasing fuel feed efficiency.
Pozzolanic Mixture for Stabilizing Landfill Leachate
- 4,917,733 - U.S.
This technology neutralizes landfill leachate, immobilizes contaminants in the fly ash and creates an environmentally safe product which has potential for beneficial use. Energy Answerscontributed to the development of this patent and is licensed to use the technology at any future projects.
Receiving Assembly for a Solid Waste Disposal System
- 5,006,029 - U.S.

A system and method for treating, injecting and co-combusting sludge in a municipal waste or other solid fuel combustor. System includes a sludge receiving and treatment module and a sludge injection and combustion module. Sludge is stored in hopper and monitored for desired moisture content then pumped to a furnace injection nozzle where it is atomized with steam and sprayed into the furnace. Odor control is by providing an air diffuser for mixing and aerating the sludge and a filter system for filtering odors.
Coloring Agent Addition System
- 10/856,258 - U.S.
System includes a processing module having an in-feed conveyor for receiving and processing a raw material and a coloring unit connected to the in-feed conveyor for adding a coloring agent to the raw material. The coloring agent is delivered at a rate dependent on a rate of operation of the processing module.
Improvement in Starved Air Inclined Hearth Municipal Waste Combustors (Pioneer-Plus)
- 60/571,357 - U.S. Provisional Patent Application
Numerous modifications provided that result in reduced construction cost, reduced operating and maintenance cost, reduced slagging of materials on the hearths, better combustion efficiency, better control of the process, better air seals, and improvement of the underfire air system.
