Laurie J. Coughlin - Research and Product Development Engineer

Laurie Coughlin Ms. Coughlin is responsible for research and testing municipal solid waste combustor ash for re-use. She will be researching applicable policies and standards to be used in the application of ash reuse and developing research programs for the development of ash applications. She works to compile data on existing experiments and applications of ash, and will be assisting with background information to support environmental impact studies, and applying for funding and research grants involving the reuse of ash.

As a civil engineer, she has experience with gathering field data and analyzing information for research and development projects and, interpreting that data for reports. Ms. Coughlin has engineering experience that includes field supervision for municipal, environmental and geotechnical assignments including water, sewer, road design and subdivision infrastructure. She has also assisted in the design of an underground sewer holding/pumping station working as a liaison with the City of Calgary Engineering Department.

As a materials inspector, she was responsible for site inspection of concrete, asphalt and soil compaction of assigned projects including roads, bridges and a water treatment plant digester.

Ms. Coughlin has experience tutoring students in an engineering graphics course which covered topics such as drafting, introduction to computer, and an overview of engineering and the law. She has been a Science Research Group Leader at a local school overseeing the 6th grade chemical group’s investigation of a Salt Pond utilizing the St. Croix Environmental learning lab.

She serves on the boards of the YAG Foundation, a breast cancer awareness and support group, and the Pointe Dance Academy, and is a fundraising event coordinator for the Women’s Coalition.

Ms. Coughlin holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering (Honors) from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
