Mary Ann Mahoney - Vice President & Secretary, Energy Answers International

Mary Ann Mahoney

Ms. Mahoney began her employment at Energy Answers and Smith & Mahoney Engineers in 1986. As the Information Manager, she supported the efforts related to the final phase of construction of the SEMASS Resource Recovery Facility. Her responsibilities shifted from research and IT management to public relations and administration once the SEMASS Resource Recovery Facility was in start-up. She relocated to the SEMASS area and became the media and community contact, coordinating hundreds of tours and public outreach events while also creating the graphics, videos and promotional material to explain the resource recovery process. Ms. Mahoney also organized the annual SEMASS Run for the Environment, a community day which raised funds for local environmental projects.

After the start-up of SEMASS, Ms. Mahoney worked with the project development team and coordinated the submission of numerous proposals and regulatory documents while continuing to manage public relations efforts. In 1997, she relocated to Puerto Rico to establish a subsidiary office and privately develop a resource recovery facility / eco-industrial park. Ms. Mahoney also was responsible for the formation of a Puerto Rican chapter of Keep America Beautiful. As chairwoman, she helped launch numerous island-wide anti-litter and solid waste education campaigns.

In 2002, she moved to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands to assist in the acquisition and redevelopment of a 1200 acre brownfield site. Ms. Mahoney set up the office and worked to develop a comprehensive island-wide solution for waste management and landfill closure. She also provided managerial support for the St. Croix wastewater treatment contract secured by Energy Answers. Her primary focus now is on international development projects in the Caribbean and Europe.

Prior to joining Energy Answers, Ms. Mahoney worked for the New York State Department of Transportation. Ms. Mahoney graduated magna cum laude from the State University of NY at Albany with a B.A. in Geography. She also received her Masters in Library and Information Science from Albany State.
